On Saturday 12 November our local wine industry gathered for its night of nights: the Bay 93.9 Geelong Wine Show Awards Dinner.
Taking place at Provenance Wines, throughout the night guests enjoyed the winning wines alongside three shared courses of meals.
But the real reason you’re reading this is to find out about the winners. Here’s how things landed:
- Trophy for bay 93.9 Best Wine in Show – Provenance 2021 Geelong Shiraz
- Trophy for Labelhouse Most Successful Exhibitor – Scotchmans Hill
- Trophy for Provincial Media Sparkling – Yes said the Seal 2018 Sparkling Blanc de Blanc
- Trophy for Provenance Wines Best Other White Wine – Leura Park Estate 2022 Riesling
- Trophy for Archive Academy Best Chardonnay – Scotchmans Hill Cornelius Sutton Vineyard 2020 Chardonnay
- Trophy for Geelong Cellar Door Best Pinot Noir – Oakdene 2021 Bellarine Peninsula Pinot Noir
- Trophy for Plumm Wine Glasses Best Shiraz – Provenance 2021 Geelong Shiraz
- Trophy for Tonnellerie Marsannay Best Wine of Provenance – Lethbridge 2018, 2016, 2010 Allegra Chardonnay
- Archive Academy Best Cellar Door Staff of the Year Award – Christie Panjkov from Austin’s Wines
Lastly, Pam and Richard Austin from Austin’s Wines received a standing ovation as they were awarded 2022 Hall of Fame Legends.
Their names will go down on the Wine Geelong Honour Board which hangs proudly at Geelong Cellar Door.
Journalist Gail Thomas looked into the duo’s history in the wine industry, which she read out on the night.
Here’s a snippet: “In 1982 as a small vineyard as a one acre plot of Riesling with plantings of chardonnay cabernet sauvignon following soon after. Over the years the business has expanded to become one of the major players in the region today with their wines being awarded many trophies, awards and accolades. We recognize these impressive achievements and support to the Geelong Wine Industry.”
Well done to Wine Geelong on such an incredible celebration of our local wine industry.
