Portarlington has officially been named a finalist in the 2025 Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards, with public voting now open.

The charming seaside locale of Portarlington will go head-to-head with towns across the state in the Small Tourism Town category – one of three prestigious awards that celebrate destinations with between 1,500 and 5,000 people.

The awards also include the Top Tourism Town category (for populations over 5,000) and the Top Tiny Tourism Town category (for populations under 1,500).

State winners will go on to represent Victoria at the national awards.

“Being named a finalist in these awards is a proud moment for the entire Greater Geelong community,” said City of Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM.

“Famous for its fresh mussels, cool climate wineries and beautiful bayside walks, Portarlington has long been one of our region’s most beloved coastal destinations and its reputation amongst discerning foodies is only growing.”

“A hatted chef has opened two restaurants by the water, a grand hotel is gleaming following a multimillion dollar restoration and the country’s only boutique mussel tour is based right here in Portarlington – this beautiful part of the world is becoming impossible to keep secret.”

“I encourage the entire community to get behind Portarlington and vote so we can help it claim the title it deserves.”

Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine (TGGB) Executive Director Tracy Carter said towns like Portarlington play a vital role in growing the region’s visitor economy.

In the year ending December 2024, 677,000 visitors flocked to Portarlington – an increase of 36 per cent on the prior corresponding period, according to the most recent data from Tourism Research Australia (TRA).

“Portarlington being named a finalist in the awards is testament to the passionate tourism operators there who work tirelessly to deliver the kind of exceptional experiences that keep visitors coming back for more.”

“When you cast a vote for Portarlington, you’re casting a vote for the barista who makes your morning coffee, the retail staff who greet every customer with a smile, the tour guides who bring to life the story of our proud little town and everyone else who contributes to making Portarlington the friendly, welcoming place it is.”

Public voting is a key component of the judging process for the Victorian Top Tourism Town awards. Voting closes Friday 27 June. Every vote goes in the draw to win ‘one perfect Melbourne stay’ courtesy of the Victorian Tourism Industry Council (VTIC). The prize includes two nights at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins and dining vouchers at some of the city’s best restaurants.
