Preparing the Barwon South West for climate change

by | Jan 28, 2022 | Latest News

Climate change is something that impacts us all as individuals, businesses and a community. As a result, many people and businesses want to actively contribute to climate action in their local communities.

The Victorian Government has released a series of six new community-led action plans that support communities to prepare and adapt to the impacts of climate change – and there’s one for Barwon South West (that’s us).

The Barwon South West Regional Adaptation Strategy was developed throughout 2020 and 2021 in partnership with over 60 representatives.

      The strategy covers the themes:

      • preparing for and recovering from emergencies
      • caring for the natural environment
      • improving health and wellbeing
      • strengthening the economy and workforce
      • improving resilience of our built environment
      • embracing renewable energy.

We contributed to the workshop series on behalf of our members, as the purpose of the strategy aligns with our own strategic priority of planning for balanced growth that delivers economic, social and environmental benefit for future generations to enjoy.

Read the full Barwon South West Regional Adaptation Strategy.

To accompany the strategy a range of other resources and tools were also developed by the state government, including the Preparing for Climate Change Toolkit – which we’ve uploaded as a training resource to our website.
