Overnight Visitors Welcome from 1 June
Monday, 26 May
Wonderful news yesterday from Premier Daniel Andrews that signals the restart of tourism on 1 June.
The shift in the Victorian Government messaging from ‘stay home’ to ‘stay safe’ is critical as people resume activities, albeit with a new normal regarding physical distancing and hygiene.
We’ll transition our own messaging from ‘support local businesses’ to ‘see you soon’ and focus on the assets and experiences we have that will particularly appeal to travellers looking for a break – open space, nature and reconnection with friends and family.
We’ll be in touch with all our member businesses who deliver services and experiences for visitors to understand your plans for the coming weeks. This will help us communicate with visitors about what’s available, and help connect businesses with the relevant information as they gear up to restart.
Some of the key announcements affecting our industry include:
From Monday 1 June
- Overnight stays in accommodation and private residences can resume, subject to private gathering limits.
- Overnight stays also apply to campgrounds and caravan parks – but only where facilities are private (like cabins) or where there are no facilities (back country camping).
- Entertainment and cultural venues like galleries, museums, drive-in cinemas and historic sites will be able to open their doors, alongside zoos and outdoor amusement parks.
- Physical distancing and a limit of up to 20 patrons per space will apply, and indoor venues will be required to keep customer contact details.
- Non-food and drink market stalls will also be able to open.
From Monday 22 June*
- Up to 50 people will be permitted in restaurants, cafes, galleries, museums and cinemas and theatres.
- Need more help? You can reach our team on info@tourismgeelongbellarine.com.au or (03) 5223 2588 with any questions.
This has been a really positive announcement and, like you, my team is looking forward to working hard to welcome visitors back to the region.
Sincerely,
Brett Ince
